Maryland couple arrested for having sex in applebee’s parking lot

A couple has been arrested after they were caught having sex in the parking lot of a Maryland Applebee’s.

Maryland State Police confirmed that Trooper Anthony Jones responded to a report of indecent exposure at the Applebee’s located at 45480 Miramar Way in California, Maryland, on Monday, January 12, according to a press release shared by the department.

Upon Jones’ arrival, the police officer found Kaneesha Latasha Gross of Lexington Park and James

Matthew Washington of Capitol Heights and caught them mid-coitus.

Both Gross, 35, and Washington, 58, were then arrested at the scene and taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. They were both charged with indecent exposure and disorderly conduct, according to the release.

Gross and Washington have both likely been released on bond, as there are no records of the two on the St. Mary’s County Detention Center’s inmate search.

The Maryland State Police Department did not respond to NewsPlop’s request regarding an update on the case.

It is not currently clear if Gross or Washington have entered pleas or if they have retained legal representation. Meanwhile, it’s also not known how or if the two knew each other prior to the incident.

According to the Maronick Law LLC website, disorderly contact is the leading reason for police calls in Ocean City, Maryland. The charge can be vague, with some Maryland law enforcement using it as a “catch-all” for any and all public disturbances.

Generally, disorderly conduct charges stem from “any behavior that disturbs the peace, endangers public safety or disrupts public order.” Common examples of disorderly conduct include public intoxication, public fighting, bar fights and engaging in excessively loud or disruptive behavior. In the case of Gross and Washington, disorderly conduct can also include sexual acts performed in public.

For those who are found guilty of disorderly conduct in Maryland, common penalties include being sentenced to up to 60 days in jail and being ordered to pay a fine of up to $500. In fact, some people found guilty of the crime have been sentenced to both serve time and pay a fine.

Gross and Washington may face even more penalties if they are found guilty of the indecent exposure charge. For those charged with misdemeanor indecent exposure in Maryland, they can face up to 3 years in prison, be ordered to pay a fine of up to $1,000 or be given both penalties.

In order to be found guilty of the charge in Maryland, prosecutors must prove that “the act was intentional and involved the exposure of genitals in public or in the presence of someone other than a spouse,” according to Maronick Law LLC website. The law firm added that those who are charged with indecent exposure often argue about the intent behind the act or claim mistaken identity.

Maryland law defines indecent exposure as when someone intentionally exposes their genitals in a public place or to someone that would not typically see their genitals. Examples of indecent exposure in Maryland include public urination or defecation, flashing, streaking, masturbation in public, sexual acts in public or mooning.
