The teasers and trailers released in the months preceding the film’s release left little opportunity for guesswork about the fundamental premise until a few months before its release. When the film originally came out, fans were caught away by Barbie’s fast-paced trip.
Although the video seamlessly blended a beautiful production with serious social critique, Barbie also highlighted Mattel’s enormously diverse inventory by portraying Black Barbies in many critical positions of authority, telling old and new fans that they could be anything they wanted.

Barbie is dominating the theater with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, increasing the appeal of all things pink. The movie has also sparked renewed interest in the doll collection. Both Issa Rae and Alexandra Shipp have mentioned black Barbie dolls.

Barbie 2023 review
Barbie is one of the most fun films for general audiences to have come out in recent years. The production design is excellent, especially considering how much time and effort was invested into making Barbieland appear like something out of a child’s toy.
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s performances elicited both laughter and tears, and their presence enhances the rest of the group. Gloria, portrayed by America Ferrera, may appeal to a wide range of individuals, especially moms. Ariana Greenblatt, on the other hand, is a snarky pessimistic youngster who gets it. Helen Mirren delivered an outstanding performance as the film’s narrator.
Some may see the concept as a feminist fiction aiming at undermining masculinity. In certain cases, such as when Barbie and Ken enter reality or when the Mattel board attempts to keep Barbie in a box, the discussion becomes a bit too obvious.
The film’s portrayal of patriarchy through Ken’s innocent eyes may appear to have flipped the switch on the Barbies and Kens (and Allan and Midge) in Barbieland’s positions of authority, but the general concept (or, rather, how this writer sees it) is that it shows how men are afraid feminism to be an accepted norm in this patriarchal, male-led world. Men are frequently in positions of authority, and women are supposed to rely on them to determine their identities. Barbie satirizes this age-old notion in a fun and fashionable way.
Looking under the surface, however, reveals a story that expands the existential dilemmas that both men and women suffer at some point in their lives. Finally, like us, Ken and Barbie must discover who they are.
