Wife of chiefs owner turns to god after team eliminated from the playoffs

Tavia Hunt, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, is reflecting on the team missing the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade.

“Today didn’t end the way we hoped,” she wrote via Instagram on Sunday, December 14. “After a season full of effort and heart, missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade stings —and it’s okay to feel that disappointment.”

The Chiefs lost, 16-13, to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, officially eliminating them from playoff contention. To make matters worse, quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL in the game’s final minutes, ending his season and putting the start of his 2026 campaign in jeopardy.

Tavia, 54, leaned on her faith as the Chiefs fell to 6-8 on the season.

“Earlier today, we began in worship at the Chiefs Faith & Family Chapel with Life Church, which feels especially meaningful now,” Tavia continued. “We were honored to be with Dallas Jenkins, creator of The Chosen, Bobby Gruenewald, creator of the Bible App, and friends from He Gets Us — reminders that truth and hope don’t change with a final score.”

She added, “Football teaches us a lot about perseverance, humility, and resilience. Not every game ends in a win, and following Jesus never comes with a promise of ease or comfort. But it does come with the promise that God is at work — faithfully and purposefully — even in seasons that hurt. Our trust isn’t in outcomes, but in a God who remains steady when everything else feels uncertain.”

Adding to the uncertainty, tight end Travis Kelce has yet to announce whether he wants to play next year. He considered retirement last offseason and could do so again, especially with Mahomes’ status in doubt.

“Life is bigger than football, even when football means so much,” Tavia said. “Our ultimate hope isn’t found in a playoff berth or a trophy — it’s anchored in eternity.”

A Guide to Kansas City Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt’s Family

“Grateful for this team, this community, and the journey — through every high and every hard. ❤️💛🙏🏼,” she concluded.

Tavia and Clark, 60, married in 1993 and share three children: daughter Gracie, 26, son Knobel, 23, and daughter Ava, 20. After the Chiefs lost Super Bowl LIX to the Philadelphia Eagles in February, Tavia credited her family with helping her put the loss in perspective.

“Don’t let the smile deceive you — this past month has been one of the most challenging of my life,” she wrote via Instagram in March. “One of our children recently said, ‘I want to marry someone I can suffer with, because life is hard and we all endure suffering.’ That observation stopped me in my tracks.”

She continued, “I’m so grateful for a life partner who is steadfast, whose compass always points due North. I’m thankful for wise, faithful friends who will sit with me, speak truth, and intercede in prayer. And most of all, I’m thankful for a God who is still in control — even when my world feels like it’s unraveling — who goes before me and walks beside me, even in the lowest valleys.”
