Trump administration claims coca-cola distributor discriminated against men by having a retreat for women

Trump administration officials have made it abundantly clear that they have an issue with the concept of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, also commonly referred to as DEI. Are they able to describe what “DEI” actually means? Not necessarily. But they know it when they see it (or they can ask ChatGPT to identify it for them, as DOGE did when determining which grants to cancel).

Trump critics have always suspected that President Donald Trump’s interpretation of “DEI” is anything that does not center white men. A new lawsuit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission seems to support this theory.

The civil rights agency responsible for workplace discrimination is suing a Coca-Cola distributor.

Per a report from the Washington Post, the Trump administration has an issue with a retreat that Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast had for employees.

The networking event was hosted in 2024 and invited women to “Embrace Your Authenticity.” It seems like a pretty typical workplace event, as it featured inspiring speakers, team-building activities, and networking opportunities. So, what’s the problem, exactly? Men weren’t invited.

Women at the event could speak to each other about working in a male-dominated environment—which apparently sounds like “DEI” or “reverse discrimination” to Trump administration officials. According to the publication, 85 percent of the employees at Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast are men. When the Coca-Cola distributor hosted an in-person retreat for women in 2024, it was the first time they had ever done so.

People have reasons to think the Trump administration was searching for something to be mad about.

It’s almost as if they had been looking for a complaint like the one they received from a male production employee at Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast. Regardless of whether that’s the case, this particular complaint fits the agenda the Trump administration has been promoting. After all, EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas specifically targeted white men in a video shared on X in December 2025.

“Are you a white male who’s experienced discrimination at work based on your race or sex?” Lucas said, per The Independent. “You may have a claim to recover money under federal civil rights laws. Contact the EEOC as soon as possible.”

The complaint was filed shortly after the event, but it wasn’t until January 2025 that the EEOC claimed it found “reasonable cause” and took action. Filing a complaint does not guarantee that any action will be taken. According to the Washington Post, the EEOC only investigates a small portion of the discrimination complaints it receives, and even fewer of them result in lawsuits. Those that do are usually complaints that suggest “substantial workplace harm,” Jenny Yang, a former EEOC chair, told the publication.

Gerald Maatman, an employment law expert, also told the publication that the EEOC has never focused on “bringing lawsuits on behalf of white males in reverse discrimination situations.” And yet…

The EEOC’s acting general counsel, Catherine Eschbach, said excluding men from the event was illegal.

“The EEOC remains committed to ensuring that all employees – men and women alike – enjoy equal access to all aspects of their employment,” Eschbach said, per The Guardian.

Trump critics do not really believe this narrative, especially after seeing videos of a DOGE staffer trying to explain DEI last month. DOGE staffers asked ChatGPT to flag any grants that “relate at all to D.E.I.” But when asked what DEI actually is, staffer Justin Fox couldn’t (or wouldn’t) define it, and kept referring to Trump’s executive order. He also claimed that a “gender-based” documentary about women’s slave labor during the Holocaust was “inherently discriminatory.”
