Rob reiner’s son nick once ‘wrecked’ parents’ guest house amid drug use

Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner‘s son Nick Reiner once admitted to nearly destroying his parents’ guest house in the midst of his addiction.

“It’s not much of a story,” Nick shared on an August 2018 episode of the “Dopey” podcast. “I got totally spun out on uppers — I think it was coke and something else — and I was up for days on end. I started punching out different things in my guest house.”

Nick said he started with the TV and went over to the lamp before “everything in the guest house got wrecked.”

“I went 10 rounds in my guest house,” he shared. “I literally punched the TV.”

When asked if he hurt himself during the incident, Nick said he didn’t “even remember at this point.”

“They told me I had to go,” he shared while seemingly confirming his parents tried to kick him out before the incident. “I don’t remember the specifics of it.”

During the podcast episode, Nick identified himself as a “drug addict” and said he was smoking weed and taking a little bit of adderall around the time of the podcast taping.

When questioned if there was any thought process to destroying the guest house, Nick simply said, “You’re crazy. No logic.”

The clips have resurfaced online after Rob and Michele were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles, home on Sunday, December 14. Rob was 78 while Michele was 68.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a spokesperson for the family said in a statement shared with Variety. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

One day later, Los Angeles Police Department Parker City Jail told Us that Nick, now 32, was arrested on a murder charge. (Rob and Michele also shared kids Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, in addition to the director’s daughter Tracy, 61, whom he adopted while married to ex-wife Penny Marshall.)

Nick’s case is set to be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration on Tuesday, December 16, the LAPD shared in a statement. He is being held without bail.

One day before Rob and Michelle died, the couple attended Conan O’Brien‘s Christmas party. A source told Us that Nick allegedly acted “creepily” at the celebration before leaving.

TMZ reported that Rob and Nick got into a “very loud argument” at the gathering, which other attendees overheard. Rob and Michele subsequently left the event on Saturday, December 13 — just one day before they were found dead “from apparent stab wounds” in their Los Angeles home.

Nick has been open about his addiction and previously revealed that he started to struggle with drug use as a teenager, leading to his first rehab stint at age 15. After several relapses and treatment stints, Nick began to live on the street.

After getting clean, Nick used his experience as inspiration for the 2015 movie Being Charlie. The film, which Nick cowrote, was directed by Rob and followed the ups and downs of a family dealing with a son’s addiction.
