Police are sharing new details about what led to Tiger Woods’ rollover car crash in Florida.
During a press conference on Friday, March 27, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed authorities received a call of a rollover crash just before 2 p.m. in the city of Jupiter Island.
Police say they found a pickup truck pulling a pressure cleaner trailer and a Land Rover, which was rolled over on the driver’s door.
“The driver of [the pickup truck] looked in his mirror and saw a dark colored Land Rover overtaking him at high speeds,” Sheriff John Budensiek said without revealing the exact speed. “He tried to edge off to the side of the road, but this is a small two-lane road and there was no shoulder for this pressure cleaner gentleman to get off the side of the road. As he was trying to move to the side of the road, the Land Rover overtook him at the last minute, swerved to avoid a collision, but clipped the back end of the trailer.”

A picture taken by WPTV at the scene showed a Land Rover vehicle on its side.
According to police, Woods, 50, was the driver of the Land Rover and was able to crawl out with no injuries. Once police believed the driver of the Land Rover may be impaired, DUI investigators came to the scene.
“Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment,” police said in the press conference. “They did several tests. He did explain the injuries and the surgeries that he had. We did take that into account.” (In October 2025, Woods had surgery that aimed to repair a collapsed lumbar disc.)
Police revealed in the press conference that Woods did a breathalyzer test “with triple zeros, but when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused.”
Woods has since been charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. NewsPlop has reached out to his rep for comment.
Just days before his accident, Woods was in Los Angeles competing for the first time in more than a year when he played golf as part of the Jupiter Links Golf Club.
When speaking with reporters, the athlete acknowledged that he was still recovering from past health struggles.
Tiger Woods’ Ups and Downs Through the Years: DUI Arrest, More
“This body, it doesn’t recover like it did when it was 24, 25. It doesn’t mean I’m not trying,” Woods told reporters via the Golf Channel after the match on Tuesday, March 24. “I’ve had a couple bad injuries here over the past years that I’ve had to fight through, and it’s taken some time. But I keep trying.”
Woods has experienced several ups and downs on and off the golf course. Through any career setbacks, however, the athlete has never lost his love for golf.
“I played other sports growing up, but I’ve just always loved this sport. I love to compete,” he told reporters in April 2024. “I just love doing the work. I love logging the time in. I love preparing, I love competing and I love that feeling when everything’s on fire with a chance to win and you either do or you don’t.”
