Compared to some other streamers, Hulu doesn’t have too many original movies. But its latest film, Pizza Movie, is one to watch out for.
Don’t let the admittedly dumb name of the film turn you off. Pizza Movie is a stoner comedy, and it’s not ashamed to dive into that style of humor with complete abandon.
That’s why Watch With Us believes Pizza Movie has what it takes to be a future stoner classic like Pineapple Express or Smiley Face with Anna Faris, with appealing characters, a simple but off-the-wall plot and several bizarre elements that make it one of 2026’s best comedies.

The Young Cast Is Very Funny
The biggest strength of Pizza Movie is its two leads, Gaten Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone. Matarazzo is best known for his leading role in Stranger Things for five seasons over the course of a decade. Giambrone also had a decade-long run on his signature show, The Goldbergs. Paired together, they’re very believable as a pair of college roommates, Jack (Matarazzo) and Montgomery (Giambrone), who are neither as cool nor as popular as they’d like to be.
Pizza Movie wouldn’t work if Matarazzo and Giambrone weren’t sympathetic and funny. The shared ordeal they go through is the entire point of the movie, even if a lot of their reactions boil down to screaming in fear. They just do it in a very amusing way. Lulu Wilson is also good as Lizzy, another student who inadvertently finds herself stuck on the same bad trip as Jack and Montgomery.
‘Pizza Movie’ Is a Great Modern Stoner Comedy
Stoner movies have been around for decades, but Pizza Movie leans even further into it by using special effects to demonstrate reality breaking around Jack and Montgomery. The guys took an experimental drug created by a former student named Frankie (SNL‘s Sarah Sherman), and it sends them down the rabbit hole of a shared bad trip that makes it nearly impossible to do anything before they’re sucked into the next hallucination.

Some of the things that the duo sees are simply surreal, but there are times when the visuals really sell the idea that this trip feels like a journey between alternate worlds. This isn’t a film that’s tied down by pretending to be logical in any way, especially once the drugs kick in. The only way that Jack, Montgomery and Lizzy have to escape their experience is to get their hands on some pizza, which is easier said than done. That may seem like a weak premise to hang a movie on, and yet it works perfectly well for a flick that goes by Pizza Movie.
The Movie Keeps Finding New Ways to Be Bizarre
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe does have a surprising role in this film, which the trailer foolishly spoils. Rather than repeating that mistake, we’ll simply say that you’ll know his part when you hear it. His character represents one of the ways that Pizza Movie only gets wilder and more bizarre as it goes along.
A lot of the jokes fly by at a breakneck speed, but the film shows a lot of imagination as the bad trip takes a few turns for the worse. Pizza Movie doesn’t reinvent comedies as we know them, but it’s a solid flick that should keep you laughing this weekend.
Pizza Movie is streaming on Hulu.
