Former NBA Star Reacts to Seeing His Name in the Epstein Files, Flight Log

Former NBA player and member of the United States House of Representatives Tom McMillen reacted with alleged shock when confronted with his name appearing in the Jeffrey Epstein files. McMillen, 73, was a guest on the “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast on Tuesday, December 2, when he was confronted with his name appearing in the files, which were released by Congress in November. Epstein, who died in prison in August 2019, was arrested in July 2019 for sex trafficking minors and was a registered sex offender from 2008 until his death. McMillen’s handwritten name showed up in a 1993 flight log, weeks after he left Congress after serving the state of Maryland for six years and two months after he was seen chatting with Epstein and President Donald Trump in an NBC video to promote Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, which is also featured during the podcast episode. McMillen played in the NBA from 1975 to 1986 with the Buffalo Braves, New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks and Washington Bullets. Jeffrey Epstein Rick Friedman/Corbis via Getty Images Torre, 40, pushed forward, saying the former NBA star appeared as “Tom McMillen (Congressman)” on the flight log for a trip from Washington, D.C., to Atlanta to Palm Beach, Florida. “Not true. I don’t recall any of this,” McMillen insisted. He continued, “Please, can we move on? I thought we were talking about sports and stuff. This is stuff from 35 years ago. I don’t have any relationships here.” Tom McMillen Tasos Katopodis/Getty Images for National Archives Foundation McMillen then announced he would be ending the interview abruptly. “I’m going to leave,” McMillen told Torre. “I’m sorry, I wanted to talk about the good things and some of the things about college sports and so forth.” McMillen added, “This is so long ago. I bet you don’t recall 35 years ago. So, let’s sign off. Give me your final question. What is it?” Torre asked McMillen if he had any “final comment” to help set the record straight. “I haven’t had any relationship with since the early ‘90s,” McMillen said. “So, I think that’s it. A lot of people knew him. I barely knew him. So, let’s move on.” After the conclusion of the interview, however, McMillen had plenty more to say. In an email statement to the “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast on Tuesday, McMillen wrote, “I never had a close relationship or what I could characterize as a friendship with Epstein, but have known President Trump for 40 years (since he donated to my first Congressional campaign) and was on his guest list for various parties back in the early ‘90s, including the party to promote Mar-a-Lago that was filmed by NBC in November 1992, where my girlfriend and I entered the party at the same time as Epstein, then stopped to talk with Mr. Trump while Epstein separately went into the party.” McMillen again insisted, “I still do not remember ever being on Epstein’s plane, including in Jan 1993.” How Is Prince Andrew Connected to the Jeffrey Epstein Scandal? Timeline In a separate email, McMillen criticized Torre for the nature of the podcast interview. “I agreed to do the interview and was disappointed that the primary focus of the interview and the follow up questions was a combination of Epstein and 30 year old incidents that were insubstantial but could be made to look bad.” McMillen wrote. “In addition, the interview went well past the 20 minutes I had been asked to do — running at least twice that long.” He added, “I ended the interview in a manner that could be made to look abrupt, and when I did so I also made it very clear to Mr. Torre that I felt misled about the substance of the interview…The interview seemed to be looking for gotcha angles and not substance.” NewsPlop has reached out to McMillen for further comment.
