The University of Michigan sent a seismic shock through the sports world on Wednesday, December 10 when it abruptly announced it had fired head football coach Sherrone Moore after an investigation found that he had an alleged “inappropriate relationship” with a staffer.
Shortly before his firing was officially announced, Moore, 39, was arrested in connection to an assault investigation. As of the morning of Thursday, December 11, he remains in custody.
As rumors fly about Moore’s alleged conduct, attention has turned to his family at home. The second-year head coach married his wife, Kelli, in 2015 and the couple share three daughters: Shiloh, born in 2019, Solei, born in 2022, and Sadie, their youngest, whose birth date has not been revealed.
Since Moore landed as an assistant in Ann Arbor in 2018, he and Kelli have kept their lives very private, limiting what they share publicly via social media about their marriage or children. Athletic director Warde Manuel, however, took the opportunity to acknowledge them all when Moore was elevated to head coach in 2024.

“We are thrilled to have Sherrone and his wife, Kelli, and the entire Moore family step into this new role for our football program and university community,” he said in a statement at the time.
While Kelli was a frequent presence at Wolverine football games, even dragging the kids along on occasion, she admitted that the couple’s daughters weren’t quite as invested in their dad’s gridiron success.
“Our daughters don’t care about the outcome of the games, they just want daddy to sit down and read them a book when he gets home,” Kelli said in November, according to a post shared via X by the Broyles Award, an annual honor given to the best assistant coach in college football. “And that’s what he does.”

The outlet wrote that after a big win over arch-rival Ohio State, Moore came home and “plopped himself in a beanbag chair” to spend 45 minutes reading to his daughters.
“There was no watching TV,” Moore told The Athletic. “They told me to sit on the beanbag and sit there, and I did. I read the books. It doesn’t really matter what I do on the field; when I’m home, I’m Dad.”
Former Michigan guard Trevor Keegan, now playing for the Dallas Cowboys, told Wolverines insider Steve Kornacki that Moore even set an example for him of how to interact with his own family.
“He’s made us such better people with our family, and we see how he interacts with his family,” he said. “It’s more than just football with him; there are a lot of off-the-field lessons. He’s taught me to play loose and be yourself.”

Moore was fired after leading Michigan to a 9-3 regular season and berth in the upcoming Citrus Bowl against Texas on New Year’s Eve.
The Pittsfield Police Department addressed Moore’s arrest in a press release on Wednesday.
“The incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community,” the statement read.
Authorities added, “Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details. Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as possible.”
The specific charges against Moore are unknown at this time.
