UPDATE — 12/15/25 at 7 a.m. ET: Legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles, home, on Sunday, December 14, the couple’s family confirmed.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a spokesperson for the family said in a statement shared with Variety. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
A report published by TMZ earlier on Sunday stated that law enforcement sources confirmed two bodies found at the couple’s Brentwood residence were “the Reiners.”
The outlet stated that the pair “suffered lacerations consistent with a knife,” and the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Division is “still investigating.”

Reiner, the son of legendary comedian Carl Reiner and actress Estelle Reiner, first shot to fame as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in the hit CBS sitcom All in the Family, created by Norman Lear, for which he won two Emmy awards.
He later went on to pursue a career as a film director, helming classics such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery and A Few Good Men.
Reiner also continued acting, appearing in The Wolf of Wall Street, New Girl and The Bear.
Reiner wed his wife Michele in 1989 and the couple shared three children: sons Jake and Nick and daughter Romy. He also shared an adopted daughter, Tracy, with his first wife, Penny Marshall.

Following the couple’s deaths, tributes poured in from across Hollywood.
Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband, This Is Spinal Tap‘s Christopher Guest, said in a statement, “Christopher and I are numb and sad and shocked about the violent, tragic deaths of our dear friends Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner and our ONLY focus and care right now is for their children and immediate families and we will offer all support possible to help them.”
“There will be plenty of time later to discuss the creative lives we shared and the great political and social impact they both had on the entertainment industry, early childhood development, the fight for gay marriage and their global care for a world in crisis. We have lost great friends. Please give us time to grieve,” they added.

Two people have allegedly been found dead inside the West Los Angeles home of Rob Reiner and wife Michele Reiner.
According to a report published by TMZ on Sunday, December 14, the Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the couple’s property at “around 3:30 PM PT … for medical aid” on Sunday.
The outlet reported that authorities “found a man approximately 78, and a woman, approximately 68” at the residence. The Los Angeles Police Department was said to have attended the scene 10 minutes after the Fire Department arrived.
