Cheryl Hines revealed that she and Larry David have not spoken in a while, and her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., might be part of the reason why.
“I think he’s mad,” Hines, 60, said of David, 78, during the Tuesday, December 9, episode of NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Reports. “Because Bobby’s in the administration.”
Kennedy, 71, currently serves as the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services in President Donald Trump’s cabinet. Kennedy has become a polarizing figure due to his involvement in vaccine misinformation and conspiracy theories.
Hines was introduced to Kennedy in 2004 by David while they were attending a fundraiser. Kennedy and Hines didn’t start dating until years later and eventually tied the knot in 2014.

While the actress acknowledged that David might have mixed feelings toward her and her family, she has no ill will against her former costar.
“I actually think I would be fine talking to Larry,” she said. “Somebody asked me, ‘What would happen if you walked into a restaurant and he was there?’ I would be happy to see him, and I’d say hi, and we’d talk for a second.”
Hines added that her relationship with David was more professional rather than social.
“It’s not like Larry and I used to play pickleball and we don’t now. You know what I mean?” she reflected. “I would really see him at work or things like that once in a while, have lunch, but I haven’t really been around in L.A. the same time he has, so I don’t know. I’m sure things would be fine with us. And at the same time, I’m sure he’s not happy about politics.”
David and Hines worked together on Curb Your Enthusiasm for 12 seasons. The comedy, which premiered in 2000, starred David as a fictionalized version of himself while Hines played his wife. The cast also included Jeff Garlin, J.B. Smoove, Susie Essman and more. The show wrapped up for good last year.
Earlier this year, Hines shared that she had not seen David “in a while” since the Curb Your Enthusiasm finale screening in April 2024.
“I love Larry, and I think Larry loves me. I think it’s just the politics,” Hines said during an October appearance on Billy Bush’s “Hot Mics” podcast.
In 2023, Kennedy announced that he was running for president as an independent. The politician told the New York Times that he felt “a lot of support and love” from Hines’ friends following his announcement.

David subsequently clarified his reaction to the outlet, “Yes love and support, but I’m not ‘supporting’ him.”
Hines later revealed during a 2024 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen that she and Kennedy had dinner with David the same night he released his statement.
“Weirdly, it wasn’t [uncomfortable],” she said. “These two have been friends for so long and I think when Larry said it, I think he was being Larry, like, ‘Oh, I support him but I don’t support him.’ And I think Larry and Bobby are like, ‘Well, OK.’ And I’m just like, ‘Pass the asparagus. This is a weird night, but OK.’”
Kennedy’s bid for president was short-lived, as he dropped out of the race in August 2024. He subsequently endorsed Trump.
