Bob’s Burgers star Eugene Mirman was pulled from burning wreckage and hospitalized after being involved in a serious car accident in Bedford, New Hampshire.
“Eugene was in a very scary car accident,” his spokesperson told NewsPlop on Wednesday, April 1. “He wants to thank the bystanders, state police, first responders and hospital staff who saved him. He is grateful to be on the mend. At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Eugene and his family as he focuses on recovering from his injuries.”
The New Hampshire Department of Safety confirmed that Mirman, 51, was involved in a one-car crash in Bedford on Tuesday, March 31, when his 2026 Lucid Gravity SUV struck a toll tower and burst into flames.
“While units were responding, a veteran State Trooper assigned to Governor Kelly Ayotte’s security detail came upon the crash, saw that the vehicle was actively on fire, and observed the driver was still inside,” a press release read. “The driver was then pulled from the burning car through a window and brought to safety. Governor Kelly Ayotte, along with other witnesses at the scene, provided assistance to the Trooper.”
The trooper’s identity is being kept private “due to the nature of their position,” according to the New Hampshire Department of Safety.
Police confirmed that no charges have been filed at this time but that all aspects of the crash are under investigation.
“Certainly, [rescue workers’] actions were heroic in what they did,” Colonel Mark B. Hall said in a press release. “Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it.”
Colonel Hall later told local station WCVB that Governor Ayotte got out of her vehicle and attempted to assist in Mirman’s rescue.
“[She] tried to assist in any way she could at the scene,” Colonel Hall said. “She wasn’t in harm’s way at any point, but she has a great deal of care for our citizens and tried to do what she could at the scene to provide assistance.”
Governor Ayotte, 57, sent well-wishes for Mirman and shared local news coverage of the fiery crash via her X account on Tuesday.
“I want to thank the Trooper on my security detail and the bystanders who stepped up to help at the scene of the crash for their brave lifesaving efforts today,” she tweeted. “[My husband, Joseph Daley,] and I are praying for the full recovery of the driver who was injured today.”

Mirman has voiced Gene Belcher on more than 300 episodes of Fox’s animated comedy series Bob’s Burgers since 2011 and also lent his voice to 2022’s The Bob’s Burgers Movie. He has appeared in Jon Hamm’s 2022 comedy Confess, Fletch and starred on TV comedies Delocated, Flight of the Conchords and Broad City.
The comedian — who was born in Moscow and moved to the U.S. when he was 4 years old — released his most recent special, Here Comes The Whimsy, on streaming platform Veeps in February.
Mirman announced in June 2023 that he’d tied the knot with Don’t Look Up and Defending Jacob actress Therese Plaehn in front of their closest friends and family.
“Such a happy time to be surrounded by so many friends and family, with so much love,” he wrote via Instagram at the time. “So heartening spending days and nights laughing in one of our favorite places in the world.”
