As the investigation continues, new details have emerged surrounding Rob and Michele’s final hours before their deaths. A source exclusively told Us that the couple attended Conan O’Brien‘s Christmas party on Saturday, December 13, with Nick. The source claimed Nick acted “creepily” toward guests at the party.
According to TMZ, Rob got into a “very loud argument” with his son at the party and he and Michele left. NewsPlop reached out to O’Brien for comment.
The Reiner family, which includes Rob and Michele’s two other kids Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, spoke out in a statement following Rob and Michele’s deaths.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a family spokesman told Variety on Sunday, December 14. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
Nick, who has a history of addiction, was the inspiration behind the 2015’s Being Charlie, and served as a writer on the film while his father directed. The drama chronicles an addict named Charlie (Nick Robinson), who is in and out of rehab as a teen until he is forced to go back to an adult rehab facility to avoid jail time. While promoting the movie in 2016, Rob and Nick gave a glimpse into the ups and downs they experienced on set.
“There were disagreements,” Rob said. ”At times it was really rough [working on the film].” Nick added, “Sometimes it would get overwhelming for me. I really wasn’t sure I wanted to do this.”
Rob shared that their relationship had changed by the end of experience, noting, “To be honest, by the time we got to the point of making the movie … our relationship had gotten so much closer.”
Nick Reiner Fails to Appear in Court After Arrest on Murder Charge
Furthermore, Rob discussed how the film’s subject matter hit close to home while appearing on Today in 2016.
“It was very personal,” he said at the time. “It’s not a secret, but my son Nick, who was one of the writers of the screenplay, had his problems with substance abuse. And he went through a number of rehab programs in the time he was 15 to 19. He’s doing very good now, but what I didn’t understand is the depth of what he was going through.”
“The process of making this film not only forced me to see what [Nick] was experiencing, but I think it forced him to see what I went through and what his mother went through, and hopefully the film is a reflection of that,” Rob continued.
